Mike Walker Is a New Zealand jazz icon. Mike packed the crowds into the Montmarte years ago with his Jazz Trio, and is still one of our most exciting piano players.

He also has spent years as a session musician and played with such well known N.Z. bands as Tommy Adderley's Head Band and Herbs.

Mike has been Ray Woolf's personal Pianist for 2 decades.

He has had extensive overseas experience at places like London and worked the cruise ships for many years. This experience enables Mike to supply the correct music for any occasion. He has worked with International acts such as Leo Sayer. Mike is often called on to back touring overseas artists such as Earnestine Anderson.

Mike Walker Solo

In addition to his jazz performances Mike is also capable of performing in Rag Time, Boogie Woogie, Rock a Billy, Rock 'n Roll, and Latin styles and for this reason is in demand as a solo performer when a wide variety of ages and interests are present. see more about Mike solo as the Piano Man

Mike Walker Duo

Mike combines with Pete McGregor on Acoustic bass as a duo, ideal for smaller event where quality quiet jazz is called for.

The Mike Walker Trio

The Trio comprises Frank Gibson on drums with Pete McGregor on bass. These guys can really cook whether you require Jazz background or more of a concert situation. Note: this is still a quiet option for background - drums are quieter than sax.

Ideal for: background ambience setting for product launch, wedding reception, corporate function or jazz concert

Mike received the Variety Artists Club of NZ Agnew award for excellence 2018

40th Birthday Party

Hi Robyn
The Mike Walker duo were a perfect act for Mum's 70th. Their repertoire was exactly what we asked for and the guests really enjoyed it. The combination of keyboard and bass is great for a lunch - people could easily chat and hear each other, but the music filled the space and made the event go very well. Live music is always a bonus, and I would recommend this combination to any jazz fans who need background music to add to their function.

Hi Mike
Thank you for your email. It was great to see you again and to get to hear you play – it’s been too long
We’ve had really great feedback from David about your performance so I’m very pleased with how the event went.

60's night

Hi Pete
We would like to thank you and the Mike Walker trio for making the right mood at our wedding. Everything was awesome. The music was great; the musicians were polite and delicate, they felt the atmosphere and played exactly what was needed. Mike came some time beforehand to set up and they started on time. Our evening was wonderful. So a big thank you for all of you one more time.
Best regards
Viktoriya Shnyrova and Mike Pollett

Dear Robyn
Apologies for this late reply but just to let you know that the evening event went really well.
It was a surprise occasion having Mike and Alberto join us to celebrate our son’s 21st. Mike was able to use our piano and once Alberto arrived (after he got slightly lost), the music was great, especially since the birthday boy was also familiar with Jazz standards. They were a delightful duo who became an instant part of our family. Campbell joined the boys in the second hour to sing several jazz numbers, bit of scatting, Frank Sinatra, Blues, Buble….it was wonderful. So yes, highly recommended.

Review --- Mike Walker Quintet
What can you say ?? Reviewing the July night at the club ,you just run out of superlatives about the Mike Walker Quintet and the fabulous night they put on for us . To the many local musos, who showed up , it was a superb example of what a top professional 5 piece group can do . To our crowd -- they just loved the tunes , the fabulous rythms and the stage presence , of Adrian Keeling and Jane Horder the 2 singers .
With a band like this it all starts with the rythm ,and here we saw the best . Leader and piano player [ and a true icon of NZ jazz ] Mike Walker , bassist Pete Mcgregor , and master drummer Bruce King put down so many complex rythms with such panache and drive . They made it all look so easy . Drummer Bruce King fascinated everyone by showing just what a top flight drummer is like . . , Bruce has been the "first call ' percussionist for many years around the NZ jazz scene but ,. Unfortunately we haven't seen enough of him over recent years. Fine tenor sax man Roger Manins filled in the gaps beautifully.
It wasn't only the quality of the music ,but the selection of tunes was just right for a cold winters night . This again shows professionalism , and long experience , to keep our members listening and dancing right to the end .
And why dont we give our own club a rev ? The atmosphere ,sound , and a good happy feeling in the club was all due to our committee putting a lot of work into making this an exceptional night . If a bunch of hardened pro musos like the Mike Walker Quintet say they thoughrily enjoyed the gig -it must have been good !! It says a lot for the mana of our club that such an excellent band travels all the way {and back] in one day over mid winter to play for us
Take a bow -- the band and our club !!!

Hi Pete
All went well thanks, I’m afraid we are quite hard to get in touch with but Mike is clearly very experienced and got on with things. His performance was entirely appropriate and just what we were looking for, thanks for suggesting him.

Hi Pete, yes all went well thank you. I made a comment during my speech that night that Mike would be packing up at 10pm and we could then start with real music – meaning loud pop music.
But there was no offence intended so I hope Mike was all ok with that. He is very good and clearly loves what he does.
Cheers, Geoff Gillott

Fantastic show, the locals will talk about this one for quite some time.
Your whole Trio, Ray and Suzanne showed us that good music comes from the heart and sole!
There is actually no other way of explaining it, other than how you projected your enjoyment onto us, you all played from the heart.
Thank you, we look forward to more next year and putting something together for outdoor concert.

Hi Pete,
Thank you so much for a wonderful day on the 10th March. Everything went so well, the jazz band (including you in it) and then Mike on piano and Adrain (Keeling) vocals were wonderful, very professional and sounded fantastic. Thanks for going the extra mile and moving all the equipment for a quick change over of playing in two different areas - all very appreciated and made the day!!
Thanks again.

Dear Pete,
Thank you so very very much. Mr Walker was absolutely superb.
Mr Walker was playing in the same room as where the canape's & pre-dinner drinks were served, and continued to play through Dinner (which was in the next room) until the Main course was served.
Mr Walker was (as i'm sure you know!) very very good and extremely courteous and did everything we had requested of him.
Thank you once again - I was so pleased to have found your company on the web, I will definitely, definitely, use your musician service again.

Hi Pete,
Our day was wonderful and Mike Walker was absolutely fantastic at our
ceremony. With little direction from us he read the environment perfectly
and provided us with fitting music.
A special thank you for the song he chose for me to walk down the aisle to.
I didn't have a particular song that I wanted played so left it to Mike to
choose and his selection was beautiful and perfect. Thank you so much.
