Allana Goldsmith is a rare gem. The kind of artist one hears for the first time and is immediately captivated. To know her native language and skillfully blend it with modern pop/ jazz standards, plus creating her own original songs, is a path less travelled and not for the faint hearted.

At the age of 19 Allana was taken under the wing of some of the great jazz musicians of New Zealand. This is learning the old school way, not from a book or sitting in a classroom, but with mentors, handing down their wisdom and experience over a long period of time. Allana has been privileged to work with some of Aotearoa’s finest jazz musicians. Allana says, “These gentlemen were highly instrumental in furthering my jazz education.”

Allana is a New Zealand Maori / European, her iwi are Ngati Porou and Ngai Tai. She was born in Ruatoria, East Cape, and moved to Auckland when she was 6yrs old. She has recently started writing her own lyrics in Te Reo Māori to some Jazz standards and is also composing her own tunes.

Allana's latest project is to perform the music of the great Sarah Vaughan as a tribute to that artist's influence (see first video)

Ideal for: background music for wedding, corporate event, house party. The music is largely new arrangements of jazz standards some of which will be sung in Maori
