Grant Winterburn has emerged as one of NZ's leading keyboard players and is igniting a new generation of listeners with his blistering piano / organ performance. He represents a time warp in jazz splendour, recreating the verve and passion of the heyday of jazz showmanship.

Grant Winterburn’s career has placed him squarely at the forefront of New Zealand jazz and funk performance. Grant was the musical director of Auckland Theatre Company's hit production of 'The Rocky Horror Show' and 'A Christmas Carol'. He was also a member of highly acclaimed New Zealand band Eye TV [on the album 'fire down below']. He has since been active in the theatre scene, notably with Jennifer Ward-Lealand's show 'Falling in Love Again'. He played keyboards on kiwi recording artist Carly Bindings latest album, and performs regularly with many of New Zealands top instrumentalists and vocalists.

He annually appears as a head line act at the Tauranga Jazz Festival and at the 2006 Festival opened for Nathan Haines on solo piano.

Grant began his musical career in Tauranga [NZ] as a keyboard player in rock bands and in jazz groups, winning best composition and best pianist awards at National youth band competitions whilst still in his teens.

“His wild approach to keyboard playing, which would often see his instrument ending up on the floor as he played it with his feet, made him unforgettable even then.” [Stuart Whitaker-Bay News, April 2003]

Grant studied Jazz piano for three years at the Wellington Conservatorium in the early 90’s and was in high demand as a session musician, developing a sizzling technique on his beloved instrument – the [Hammond] organ – he even played a short stint in Bruno Lawrence’s last band – ‘Cracker’.

Ideal for: background for wedding, birthday, business function, garden party, and concert.

Kia ora Grant,
On behalf of Creative New Zealand I’d just like to say thanks very much for your wonderful contribution to our conference cocktail function this year. My apologies for disappearing on you afterwards without touching base again – things can get very hectic during the two conference days as I’m sure you can imagine. I hope you enjoyed it and that everything was as per your requirements.
Please pass our thanks on to your bassist as well.
Ka kite,
Sue Nelson

Hi Pete
Grant Winterburn was great and he is a friendly and relaxed person to get along with as well. Unfortunately, we had booked Grant on an occasion where there were many functions and events taking place on that particular day that drew our regular and potential patronage away from his performance and he played to a very small audience. However, he maintained his professionalism and carried on the performance as a true musician ie. with the same heart as if there were an audience. I would recommend Grant for the ambience that we were trying to set as a Lazy Sunday afternoon or possibly as entertainment for a dinner function.
Regards
Sheree Wilson
