Maria, founder of Flamenco NZ, has from a young age dedicated her life to the Flamenco Arts. Originally from Holland, Maria moved to New Zealand in 1983. In 1990 Maria resided, as special guest, at the Pena Flamenca in Jaen, Andalusia, Southern Spain. A Flamenco Pena is a non-commercial centre where Spanish people gather with friends, family and flamenco artists and dance, sing and play traditional Flamenco on a daily basis.
Over the last 15 years Maria has produced, directed and choreographed numerous Flamenco concerts.
Besides performing, Maria is a dedicated and experienced teacher of Flamenco dance as well as Flamenco Guitar and Spanish language. Being a musician and performer, she has a sound knowledge Flamenco rhythms. Maria teaches traditional Flamenco and when possible will use live guitar accompaniment. She has taught workshops all over New Zealand, including at the New Zealand School of Dance, Wellington.
Maximum performance time: Dancing – 10 minute floorshows with up to 3 dances per show. Maximum of 3 x floorshows.
Guitar – 3 x 50 minute sets
