Dalewool Umpah band - Auckland
This is a 9-piece umpah band which genuinely follows the style of the GERMAN BEER HALL bands.
The Dalewool Umpah band is an offshoot of the award winning Dalewool Auckland Brass band
Short Alpine pants, braces, cocked hats are de rigour with these guys. heaps of cornets, tuba, drums, and a master song caller and Beermeister.
Sing along or just listen & drink your beer and enjoy these comics.
The Dalewool Umpah Band will happily tailor the band name to suit the venue/client (for instance it could be named after venue or sponsor) they also supply a extensive sing-a-long sheet for the client to reproduce for audience participation.

Being a larger band these guys really get the crowd going, even a younger crowd will be dancing and singing

Holzhacker Band - Auckland
Holzhacker is a small 3-piece umpah band suited for smaller selected venues with maximum crowd size of 100 people
Holzhacker describe themselves as best suited to setting ambient beerhall theme setting sound rather than full on beerhall sing a long.
The band includes a piano accordion for that genuine German beerhall sound.
Lots of fun

Stein Band - Hamilton
‘The Stein Band’ are New Zealand's premier bavarian beerfest musicians. The band has performed an incredible number of traditional and modern beer-fests for a wide range of clientele, including pubs, weddings, clubs and Corporate functions. The band has a contingent of six players including the Burgermeister (leader) and includes drums, bass, ukulele/guitar, cornet and trombone.
The band provides a total entertainment package including costumes (Leiderhausen), props for games and song sheets for audience participation. Other options such as traditional ‘lebkuchen’ (heart cookies hung around your neck, for sharing with other party-goers) are also available.)

Pelorous Trust wellington Brass - Wellington
Pelorus Trust Wellington Brass can provide Bavarian style bands from various sizes, from general background music, to full Bavarian sing along, complete with compere and song sheets.

Some notes about your Octoberfest plans:
1. book REALLY EARLY - there is a limited number of Friday/Saturday nights in October. Do not expect to get a band if you contact us in September! We suggest planning and booking for this event about June
2. Be careful with your planning: Kiwi audiances are not familiar with this style of entertainment and often after a few drinks expect the band to change to a rock band - this cannot happen due to instrumentation, so plan your umpah event to be a fairly short one and do not expect rock dancing - if you want that - book a deejay as well!
3. Make sure you copy off the song sheets and distribute them round the room - makes the night.
4. Make sure your guests know that a beerfest evening is planned. They can then dress accordingly (fun) and come along knowing what to expect. It is very unwise (and unlikely to be succesful) to simply put on a beerfest night at a venue and expect it to go off if guests are not aware of it.

So the number 1 rule for a successful Beerfest evening is PLAN PLAN PLAN!

Last Saturday went really well.
Initially, I was a little worried seeing as it was "too hard" for them to get an Oompah style photo, (however) everyone had a great night, the beermeister was considered to be one of the best we've had, if not the best. Will definitely use them next time we have an Oktoberfest. I'm sure they know everyone enjoyed themselves but just pass on our congratulations on a job well done anyway.

Hi Kellie Yes, the event was well received by the students, however we had a few students that caused a bit of trouble by dressing up in offensive costumes (eg: nazi, jewish). Negative aspects aside, the band were absolutely fantastic and the mein did a great job of getting the students excited and to join in with the singing. I hope that the band weren't too shocked at the behaviour of some of the students. They did a fantastic job and I would hope that they would be willing to return to the campus for future events! Thanks again Laura Hitchon
