La Luna
Tango La Luna presents a new
sound on the New Zealand music scene - mysterious, seductive arrangements
that mix traditional Europeon sounds and instruments with the
passion and sense of longing of the Argentine tango.
La Luna appeals to dancers and listeners alike. The quintet plays
regular concerts as well as providing live music for milongas
- the social evenings of tango dancing and music.
Even though their music draws its inspiration from Argentinian
tango in all its forms, sounds of jazz and classical music can
be heard in the arrangements, showing how far tango has now moved
from its roots in Buenos Aires to truly become "world music".
Option:
The Tango La Luna performance can cater for the eye as
well as the ear: 2 dancers are normally used for a demonstration:
NZ award winning duo David and Nikki Wenborn in a virtuoso display
of passionate tango dancing and a package can be negotiated where
one hour of dance lessons precedes the performance, so everyone
has a chance to dance the tango
La Luna's repertoire covers a century of
tango, from the early sounds of the Guardia Vieja and the lyricism
of the revered master Pugliese to the modern Tango Nuevo , exemplified
in the unrelenting sensuality of Piazzolla's famous " Libertango".
To this mix La Luna adds classical elements, jazz and latin sounds
and improvisation.
La Luna is a totally acoustic ensemble
(amplified when required)
