Phil Broadhurst would have to be one of New Zealand's best known Jazz Musicians. For many he is the voice of New Zealand jazz through his jazz program "The Art of Jazz"on Concert FM. Phil was recently awarded a Queens Birthday honour for his services to Jazz.
A graduate of the Berkley School of Music (USA) Phil has always been in the forefront of Jazz performance and education in New Zealand. He has recorded prolifically both with his band Sustenance and on other peoples' projects.
Phil is a regular performer at Auckland's premier jazz spot, The London Bar, and is first call pianist when overseas Jazz artists tour New Zealand and require a local backing band.
Phil's favourite pianists include Chick Corea and Keith Jarrett so not surprisingly his style playing reflects this. He is a strong modern bebop stylist. Phil has written many jazz originals and often includes some in his performances.
Phil's trio comprises piano, acoustic bass and tenor sax. Drums can be added where required. With his credentials, he can call on the best performers as his side men.
