Petone Bennett Duo

Petone Bennett Duo play swing, jazz, rock and roll, along with recognized favourites from the 40s through to the 90's. Petone Bennett has been entertaining dance audiences for 10 years in New Zealand, first with the Kings of Swings, and later adding old school rock and roll to the mix. They also cater to Ceroc dancers.

While Petone Bennett comes from a background of swing, jazz, and blues, he appreciates that clients enjoy other styles. The band has a lot of fun with cross genre material–a smooth jazz version of 'Roxanne' by the Police, or dub tunes
moulded into blues for example.

It's important to know that Petone Bennett Duo don't use 'pre-programmed' material, like backing tracks. Rather, Petone sets up live loops of bass and guitar (his guitar can do both) 'on the fly' along with the drummer who lays down the groove. Responding to the audience is vital, and their performances stand out because they engage comfortably with the people they are spending the evening with.

Because they have such a close relationship with the local dance groups, they are able to offer something that appeals to corporate clients - the opportunity to learn some simple partner dance moves, either on the night, or prior to the gig - very useful for team building exercises, and a unique experience, using a professional dance instructor. It really does seem to centre everyone in a fun and non
threatening positive experience, regardless of the ability to dance!

Petone likes to dress for the part, and can pull out the stops where a sense of style is essential. Equally, the all black relaxed look can sometimes be just as suitable.

They can also add lead colour with saxophone, keyboard or electric guitar as required
