
Pete McGregor is a well
known full time professional jazz and rock bassist and band leader.
Pete has been involved in the Entertainment business since the age of
6, and profesionally involved since the age of 13 when as a youthful
bassist he started working Friday and Saturday nights in dance bands
in his home town of Tauranga. In his late teens he was hired to perform
3 nights a week in Rotorua backing touring floor shows. He moved to
Auckland in 1969 to persue a professional musical career.
During periods out of the entertainment industry Pete has been (among
other things) a goat farmer, a war games paint ball site manager, a
sewing machine retailer, a car dealer/importer.
Returning to full time musician Pete formed his own rock covers band
Beats Working
(formerly Prima) and
his jazz combos All That
Jazz, Jazza latina
and Face It.
He is also first call bassist for many of Auckland's top jazz band leaders.
He usually performs 3 - 4 times weekly.
|In 1998 Pete started Pete McGregor Entertainment, this operation now
occupying much of his busy weekly schedule along with his 2 staff.
More recently Pete started his other business Pete
McGregor Music double bass shop
Both businesses are operated out of large premises at his Auckland residence
Pete is married to Yvonne and together the have 3 children and 3 grandchildren
Equipment:
Pete currently uses a circa 1870 Saxony manufactured curved back
carved solid wood bass. His bass was recently given a major overhaul
by Neville Whitehead luthier in Australia.
He favours Thomastik Spirocore Weich strings,
For amplification Pete uses and loves his Wilson adjustable bridge pickup
and Pete uses and endorses the Phil Jones Bass Flight Case on his jazz
gigs, he also uses a larger 300w Phil Jones Bass amp when performing
gigs where he needs to change from Acoustic Bass to bass guitar for
pop dance music in his covers band Beats Working or when he is backing
Ray Woolf.
