Few dance bands enjoy the awesome feeling of a full dance floor from the very first song. BANDA LATINA, the hot Latin American group that took the entertainment scene by storm when they arrived in New Zealand from Peru in 1991, has a sound that proves irresistible to all walks of life.
So thrilled was the Hyatt Hotel in Auckland after BANDA LATINA performed at their New Year's Eve party in 1992, they immediately rebooked the group that night for their 1993 and 1994 New Year's Eve parties. They also entertained thousands of people at events like the Devonport food and wine festival, Gisborne new year’s street party, the Big day Out in Auckland, Mission Bay Jazz festival, Waiheke Island Jazz festivals, and recently Auckland and Hamilton Santa street parades. Banda Latina have also performed in Hotels, pubs, restaurants, festivals, Mardi grass, balls and any other places all around New Zealand where the locals wanted something lively and exciting, something "different". And that's what Banda Latina is: energetic, exotic, passionate, in a few words : an unforgettable experience.
The six piece group features EDUARDO on lead vocals and Peruvian vocalist-musicians providing the rhythmic chorus while playing instruments that include a line up of congas, bongos, Latin timbales, drums, huiro, campana (cowbell) and maracas. This is augmented by backing tracks which provide a full band sound.
Performing music from the romantic Bolero and swinging Bachata, to the lively rhythms of salsa, cumbia and merengue, the exotic Latin American sound is enhanced by co-ordinated dance steps from band members.

Whether it's the lively, fluid Latin American sound of Salsa, the provocative, sexy sound of Bachata or the emerging new moves of Cumbia, with it's lively percussion beat; BANDA LATINA will have even the most dedicated NON-party person joining the fun. They are good looking, exotic and guarantee a lively night.

We all really enjoyed the entertainment that Banda Latina and dancers provided. I was especially pleased that they managed to get most of our staff on the dance floor whilst teaching salsa and other dances.

Overall the band was really great. I had a few comments from our staff that they would have liked some more commercial latin music (i.e J-Lo, Ricky Martin etc) in the break but that just comes down to personal preference as most people enjoyed the different music and as the theme was “Latin” then that’s what we expected.

I would definitely recommend Banda Latina as they are great at getting everyone involved and are thoroughly entertaining.

The night was very successful and a good time was had by all, so thank you. However I was a little disappointed with the band and there set up given the cost to have them perform. The band only had one speaker which was placed on the floor which meant with a full bar the sound became very mudded and the vocals were very hard to hear as they were distorted and muddy. The other thing that was disappointing was the band used backing tracks and for me when you say 7 piece band you would expect to have a full 7 piece band not backing track 3 singers all playing a bit of percussion.
Overall the cost of the band was far too expensive for what they provided in terms of live entertainment, set up and a full band experience. In saying that, like I said the night was very successful so thank you.

I am surprised and dissapointed at the comments from The Grange. We have been using backing tracks (as so many bands use currently), for many years already and never had a negative comment, on the contrary you have received heaps of great feedback about Banda Latina, even though we use the tracks we are still a live band.
Regarding the "only speaker" he mentions, he is talking about one of our front of house speakers which is a quite powerful small tower that we use to run our 4000 Watts amplifier. I went to that venue 2 weeks before the gig, as I always do, to assess the size and acoustic qualities of the venue and then then decide what kind of equipment to use according to the size and number of people; I spoke to the manager in charge then. That venue is quite narrow and enclosed and I decided to use only one speaker which i considered loud and powerful enough to cover for the small area of dancing in front of the band, since the rest of the venue offered chairs, couches and tables for people to sit. I must say that I could not even do a sound check during the afternoon because they had the place full of customers and had the music in the background going, however we did the sound check just before starting. Why we put the speaker on the floor, to achieve a solid bassy sound and avoid blaring the sound in the patrons ears!
However as we started performing, the place got packed and full such as that people were very close to the stage and even some people put their jackets on top of the front speaker hanging in front therefore blurring the sound from it! We had our fold back system of course and as you know you cant actually hear the front of house speakers in the middle of a performance! I had to ask people many times to please get off the front of the speaker.

PME COMMENT about this event: We have now altered the way Banda latina has been advertised on our site as we believe that the client got the impression of a totally live band from words and pictures previously shown. The new content of the page reflects the actual performances more closely. Banda latina has been with PME for many years and we are confident that clients will enjoy their energy and music. They are a great act to watch and listen/dance to, and oh boy can they dance!
